Hoya vs. Kenko vs. Optex... These are the 3 brands readily available in stores near to where I live. And they're all priced in the $50 (CDN) ballpark. Is there a difference?

One salesman told me there's no difference at all for an amateur photographer printing reasonably-sized prints. Another salesman told me that Hoya and Kenko are on par, while Optex is a lower-end filter in terms of quality.

I can't find (m)any professional comparisons online. Actually, the only real online advice I found re brand said to buy a filter made in the U.S., Europe or Japan, and to avoid anything made in China, the Phillipines, etc.

Any advice?

You haven't said what size filter you use, or whether they are linear or circular polarizers, but I would guess from the price, that these are not multi-coated filters.

I'm not familiar with the Optex brand, but Hoya and Kenko are both good quality. You might also try KEH.com for used filters.

I ended up buying a 58mm Hoya circular polarizing filter. It has a small spot/flaw, but in my experience, all filters have nicks. Ug.

I'll let everyone know how it works out.
