Default Motion Activated Shutter Release For Digital Camera

I need a motion activated shutter release for my Canon G3 digital camera. I have a deer feeder in my back yard. I see their tracks in the mud & snow, but, I rarely see the deer because they only come in the middle of the night.

I want to set my G3 on a tripod in the garage looking out the back window. I need a motion sensor to trip the shutter when the deer come up to the feeder.

Does the G3 have a remote shutter input? If so you can make one easy enough......

Default Remote Release

The G3 does come with a tiny infra-red remote control.

Hmmmm. It would be a little easier to build if it had a remote input, but it is still possible to build one. It would be set up as such: The motion sensing unit would have to then activate the IR remote to trigger the shutter, or intergrate the IR remote function into the motion sensing unit. It's kinda easy to find out what codes the IR remote uses to trigger the camera if u have an oscilloscope. Then those codes must be duplicated and sent to the camera when the unit senses motion. Not a novice project, but can be acomplished for about $40.00.
