Saw one forum where someone kept a can of compressed air in his camera bag, presumably for cleaning purposes. Is this advisable? Could you use this to clean dust on the mirror or inner workings of the camera, dust that might get in when changing lenses?

I think CANON mention canned air for cleaning. After use, members complain about dust spotson their viewfinder prisms and focus screens. I think, if you use a blast of air too shift dust it has too go somewhere. I myself have a little two way electric blower a sucker. I only use the sucker too suck out the dust in the sensor compartment It has a soft rubber hose about 1/4" inside diameter, just go around the sensor without touching it.

Not recommended, especially anywhere around the sensor or even in the mirror box of a dSLR.

The compressed air can can sometimes spew out liquid solvent and THAT can cause all sorts of damage. Additionally, the force of the jet of air can be too great, actually lodging dirt and dust particles in the mirror box.

No, you want a gentle puff of air. Get the Rocket Blower instead. This is a large hand held blower that does a great job.
