by the way they changed the design on the finger biter flip locks and replaced them for free to anyone who complained. thats how i got mine. the new design works beautiful. took 15 minutes to change over. bogen is very responsive. thats why they are the distributer for manfrotto and gitzo in the US.

So you two actually don't like the flip locks like on the bogen 3443D (what I have)? What do you prefer, the rings that you turn (like most/all Gitzo's have)? I've never had the flip ones on my pod catch a finger, and it has the advantage of being easy to lock and unlock (maybe I feel the ring ones are harder because you have to do more than one hand motion.. its a turn, a release, and more turn. That is slow.) And I always know if the legs are locked or not. Its clear when the clip is sticking out.

The loundness is a serious concern. I guess I always extend the legs the first time I setup and then keep it that way for the rest of the trip. But that isn't always practical, I guess.

People might like this article. Its a little humerous, but its really deadly serious. This strategy can save you money:

Sjms - Do you go back to the retailer to get the replacement locks or directly to Bogen? Guess I should check their website.

Eric S. - I can't say that I don't like the flip levers, I just wish I had given the thumb screw locks more consideration before purchasing. I really discounted the thumb screws immediately in favor of the speed of setup offered by the flip levers. By the way, great article!!! I had read it while researching tripods and it is the inspiration behind my "Buy the best....." statement. So true. I got it right on the second try. Could have saved myself $29.

Okay, so yesterday I received my leg lock lever. Yes, 1 lever! I just called them, the remaining 5 are now on their way.

No one is perfect. They are good to deal with. Very quick, polite and responsive.
