I noticed today that there isa finger print on the lens of my camera.
I am told that finger prints can damage a camera's lens coating. The lens is a Canon EF 17-40mm L USM. 1. How do I determine if the coating has been damaged? 2. If it has been damaged, how do I fix it? 3. What is the best way to clean this lens? Thanks you. |

I would not expect fingerprints to permanently damage a quality lens.
Try breathing on lens to fog the surface and then wipe with a soft, absorbent cloth. If the oils from the fingerprint don't come off completely, use a good quality lens cleaning solution. brian |

Agreed. A fingerprint shound not damage the lens coating. And if it did, there is basically nothing you can do about it.
