Hello:

I won this Sony DSC F828 camera at a technology conference as a door prize. It was the second best prize. The problem I have is, I don't know much about photography, and this camera looks pretty intimidating. Any help with using this camera, and or advice as to good reading material that could help a complete novice learn how to use a camera, would be much appreciated. I currently have a Sony DSC S70 that I use for basic digital photos, but it is absolutly nothing like this camera.

Thanks

Bill

I just have to ask--if the Sony 828 was the second prize...what was first prize!?

Sony Laptop computer was the first prize.

It's always nice to win a digital camera as a door prize. About 4 years ago, I won a Kodak DC-215, 1mp and I used the heck out of that camera! Upgraded last year and gave the 215 to my son and he is still using it.

You might find this website useful:

It has lots of good info on photography in general... It can be very helpful to beginning photographers.

Sign up for a free course at: http://www.sonydigitaluniversity.com. There is a course there that offers the basics of taking the pictures, saving them, and editing them.

Also, a book that I'd recommend is: Rick Sammon's Complete Guide to Digital Photography. You can find it for about 30-35 bucks at Walmart.com. I've used this book and refer back to it when I need a reminder on how to create a picture. Excellent and well written. Good luck!
