I have a Nikon 5200 and I also have some lenses for a canon EOS-300 35mm camera (eg a 105mm macro lens). Is there any way of placing the camera up against the lens to take advantage of the lenses that I already own?

No...SLR lenses are not compatible. Some Nikon cameras (excluding the 5200 I believe) can have a filter adapter tube screwed on and you can get converter lenses for it. Here's some examples on a Nikon 5400 just for example:

Hmmm....
I have had very good results doing the same to a telescope witha Nikon 990. I place the lense up close to the eyepiece, and use the camera to focus and zoom. There is also a technique where people are attaching 50mm lenses "inverted?" to the end of their lenses to get even closer pictures. Why don't you try what you suggest. Experimentation is part of the fun. |

True, but you can easily hold it to the lens, or use tape, etc.
