My folks are moving into a smaller place. My Dad documented most of our lives with an old Nikon, shooting slide film. We have thousands of slides that the younger set would like to have on disk. Does anyone have a recommendation for an auto feed slide scanner?

You know, one that automatically provides great results? And loads the slides from the carousel trays? and unpacks the trays from the boxes? and carries the boxes down from the attic? and costs under $50? ;-) ;-)

Seriously, I'm looking for introductory info on a slide scanner, including advice like "you're better off having a service do it if there's more than 500 slides." Thanks in advance for your help! :-)
