Hi
I have just purchased a Nikon Coolpix 5000. How many times can the battery be recharrged and how many times can the memory card be erased?
Thanks.

For all practical purposes, your memory card can be used and erased "forever" (i.e., many, many, many times). There are technical arguments (somewhat "arcane") over media degradation, but it's usually physical damage or hardware changes that get there first.
Battery life is a more complex question: Some people report getting years out of a battery, others see them die after a few months. Most of the issues seem to arise either through misuse or not following manufacturer recommendations (e.g., discharging when a battery will not be used for extended periods, not properly recharging, or for ni-cads not fully discharging periodically to establish a memory).
A strong recommendation is to purchase a second battery, primarily to have ready to use when you're in the field and your first battery fades. Digi cams can draw a lot of power, especially if you have the LCD viewer on continuously!
Good luck with your new equipment...

Thank you so much for replying, it's is a little frustrating at the moment, since I am experimenting with everything. The ultimate use will be for photographing small objects such as ancient artifacts, jewelry and the like. Thanks for your encouragement.
