I am planning to buy a digicam for normal use on parties and outdoor trips. I have not owned any digital camera before. I shortlisted Canon A610 as being suitable for my purpose, but am wondering if I should be buying it considering so many canon owners complaining about E18 errors.

1. Should I still go for this option?

2. Incase I decide not to go for A610, what other options should I look at?

3. Do models from Nikon and Sony also face similar problems?

4. Do digicams require a lot of careful handling?

Any suggestion from your side will be of great help.

Here's my own personal opinion;

1) I think the Canon A610 and A620 are highly recommended on this site so go for it.

2) There are plenty of other options. Just read the reviewson this site.

3) I haven't heard of any E18 errors myself.Don't believe everything you read on the net.

4)Digicams, like any camera need to be taken care of. Keep your camera in a case when not in use. Keep the dust off it. Don't drop it. Always wear the camera strap around your neck or wrist. Stay away from extreme dust, sand (the beach), moisture, etc.

Most important rule is to use your camera. The best camera is the one that gets used the most.

Sorry if this is a dead post, but check this other thread I posted in with my impressions of the A610.
