Canon sx50 help

Hi

I just bought the Canon sx50

I wanted to ask what is the light on the right hand side of camera (right side if you looking at camera from front view)
It shines a blue light, what is it for because it is irritating me when taking pics indoors

have you looked in the manual that came with the camera? there's almost always a diagram or two that indicate what every dial/light/etc is.

It's probably the focus assist light. It comes on to help the camera focus in low light.

You can usually turn them off for daylight use or around pets and animals, but it might struggle to focus when it's darker indoors.

I think it's the same on the sx50 as the sx40, in which case it's helps the auto focus system in low-light. As previously stated, it can be turned off (press the MENU button - AF-assist beam - OFF), however, with the light off, you may not get the best focus in low-light situations.
