Can someone please explain this concept to me in a way that makes sense? :-S
Thank you!
The Circle of Confusion (CoF) comes into play when talking about depth of field.
Strictly speaking, objects at only one precise distance are in focus in a photograph. The real question is much the same as in many other siturations where it is not possible to get things exactly right -
What is good enough? The circle of confussion is a measure of "good enough"
If you choose a large CoF (sloppy idea of "good enough") you will have a large depth of field. If you want a small CoF (very tight idea of "good enough"), you will have a smaller depth of field.
Google
Circle of Confusion for more precise explainations. Be prepared to spend a bit of time with the math of optics.
