Want to connect my 20D to my Dell 9400 so I can use it to load direct as I take shots, where can I get the correct cable long enough to enable some movement of the camera (hand held) and what cable please?

According to the review http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_...20d.html#specs the camera should have come with a USB Cable IFC-400PCU to connect the camera to the USB port on the PC.
I would suggest getting a CompactFlash card reader instead of connecting the camera. Much faster, no connection hassles, and you don't have to worry about the battery running out during the transfer. |

I just use a 3m USB extension cable and DSLR Remote Pro from BreezeSys to transfer live. Works great for me.

Hi. Thanks for replies, I have found a company that will make the USB/Camera cable to any size required. I do use C/F cards but with camera connected directly to laptop/computer the results are there in an instant and saves time, very handy in a studio envirament.
Again thanks for input. |

I wouldn't go over 5m total as I believe that is the magic number for signal quality. I find with 3m plus the length of of the canon cord linked into my laptop then all is fine. You can try longer and I'm sure it would work but just wanted to make you aware. When connected I shoot to the hard drive and CF...... I just like backup :-)

Can't you use wireless and walk around cable-free ?

I'm sure he could, but at close to US$1,000 (discount at about US$780) for the WFT-E1a or similar, the $15-20 (or slightly more depending on where you get it) USB cable makes a lot of sense! I personally would spend that kind of money on a new lens and use a cable!
