Default Getting Started Cheap, Need Input

I'm considering buying a sort-of cheap one to get started with. I'm considering two different ones, both can be had for ~ $160 online.

A Kodak DX3700

And a Fuji FinePix 2650

The basic differences (if I'm remembering correctly from the articles I read):

KODAK

    FUJI

Anybody have any thoughts or opinions on them?

I would go with Fuji. Digital zoom should not be consider when selecting zoom capabilities in a camera. You will take good pictures with the Fuji 2mp and the optical zoom will make it the clear winner.

Fuji. Seems like amuch better feature set.

Don't sweat the memory. You are going to buy another memory card anyway. Does the Fuji take their new XD card??

Go for the Fuji. I have a 2mp one (fp 2400z) that I bought about 15 months ago and I couldn't be happier with it as point-and-shoot cameras go.

I've had some excellent pictures out of mine and the only reason I'm planning on upgrading soon is becuase I want more manual features. I don't really need more pixels (I rarely print my photos) and if it was just down to image quality alone I'd happily keep my Fuji for a lot longer.

Also, as mentioed above. Ignore the specs on digital zoom, it's a feature that you might use every now and then when you really need to get closer, but it's no substitute for an optical zoom.

I can't comment fairly on the Kodak model unfortunatly becuase I have no experiance with them. But the fact that it is only a refurbished model and effectively has no zoom would put me off.

its not too bad. But XD is currently selling for a lot more than CF. Its a brand new format, and is not widley used at this time. Its possible you could run into issues if you wanted to take the XD card to a lab to get pics printed, or if you wanted to use one of those injets that read memory cards directly. Not sure if the ones out there do XD.

But I would still tell you to get the Fuji over the Kodak
