Default I have $1000 to spend. What camera should I buy?


I am looking for the best all round camera in this bracket. Middle weight, but the one thing it needs is THE best pictures possible.

I am searching and searching, but really need someone with experience to push me in the right direction.

The camera needs to have a balance of weight and size, pixel number, image quality, professional features and availability.

Default Don't forget...

... that you'll probably want to set aside $150-200 for:

- extra batteries and charger
- more memory cards
- decent camera bag
- memory card reader
- maybe a photo printer

Hyun has a valid point in that their will be some additional wants when you enter the digital world. I am going to recommend the Olympus C5050 for the following reasons:

f1.8 lens
moveable lcd panel
photo assist lamp
meida supports compact flash, smart media, xd picture card, microdrive
Auto and manual functions
hot foot for external flash

canon g3 - 620.00 on ebay, 189.00 for 256mb CF card, 60.00 for a nice leather carrying case, and after all is said and done (taxes, shipping).. get a quick bite to eat at mcdonalds!
