OK - am really new at this. Just bought a S5200 Fuji. Tried it today. What I would like to know is when I am wandering around shooting photos should I turn it off between shots. Eg. Shooting a pond - walking for 15 or so steps then shooting another duck. Or say if you were to take 30 photos in 15 minutes or so is it better to keep turning the camera on and off or just leave it on. I'm thinking that it takes more battery to keep turning it on and off - but do not have a clue what is correct. Thank you.

Shari,
Just leave it on. If you don't take any shots in a minute or two, the cam will shut itself down (power save mode) to conserve battery life. No need to continuously hit the on-off switch...better to discharge your batteries than wear out the power switch. How do you like the S5200 so far? the Hun |

Check your manual. It may have a setting to change the amount of time before it goes into "sleep" mode; but yeah, if it's on normal sleep mode (1 minute or so), leave it on; it shouldn't hurt anything, and depending on the camera may make it come "awake" faster than if you turn it completely off. Once again, check your manual on that.

Thank you both for your replies. And to "the Hun" - so far I really like my S5200. I have only used it yesterday for the first time. I wanted to upgrade from my pocket Finepix F700 to the 10X Zoom. Here is the first photo I took.
