Default Minolta 7Hi or ?

Hi, I'm not new to digital, but I'm ready for a major upgrade. Question is I'm looking at the Minolta Dimage 7HI for quality and zoom features. I'll mostly be taking pics of family, travel, and sports events. I'm not a pro or semi pro so I dont really need all the bells and whistles the 7HI offers. What other (very good) cameras should I look at that have 5mp's but just less features, but retain the fast pics per sec and zoom? thanks, BrettW

I'd wait until the Dimage A1 comes out as I'm sure you'll see a big price drop coming up to the holidays due to the pressure of the Canon DigiRebel.

Long time Dimage user and early adopter of the original Dimage 7. The 7hi corrects some of the issues with the original but still has the weak autofocus and relatively low resolution EVF. The A1 has improvements in those areas but keeps the good features as well as adding a tiltable LCD and anti-shake feature.

Don't think that you'll never need the "bells and whistles." As you learn you'll find what flexibility you'll need in a camera. It's time for me to move on to a DSLR so I can get the functionality I have in my film SLRs or I'd be looking at the A1 myself.

Couldn't agree more with our wise Padeye!

An alternative may be the D7i which is priced several hundred $ less than the D7Hi, but in silver and without the larger buffer for RAW or the external sync terminal...
