Default Great prints with a cheap HP

Well I take 2 Megapixel pictures (Fine) with a Fuji 2800, and use a cheap HP 842C DeskJet ($69 Cdn.) and get great unpixellated pictures.
I set the HP for "other" glossy paper (I use generic glossy), so that it sets "PhotoRet II" photo quality (you MUST set PhotoRet for photo stock, if you have it as an option, in order to get good quality).
I do not process my images in Photoshop or the like, just straight from camera, so I'm not sure if something was done incorrectly there.
I pick my print size (8x10) in the HP PhotoSmart program, wait for them to dry, trim the white borders and frame them.
