Outdoor Dusk/After Dark Portraits

I'm looking for a compact digital camera that will take good pictures outdoors at dusk and after dark. Prefer a manual setting as I may not have any light to see controls. The subject will be people/fish taken 5 to 7 feet away. I also want to be able to enlarge to 8 X 10.
Any suggestions as to what cameras to look at would be greatly appreciated!!

If you are going to be shooting in the dark you will want focus assist and an external flash. 8x10" means 3Mpixels or more.

Those criteria and whatever your budget is should thin the number down to something managable.
