Default Photo "Experts"--please help!

If you look at this post in the Sony digital camera forum http://www.stevesforums.com/phpBB2/v...ic.php?t=19324 you will see that we are trying to "analyze" a couple of digital photos to determine how the camera settings on a Sony DSC-P92 digital camera affect the exposure on macro photos taken with flash.
I would like to know if the formula for camera optics that applies to SLR cameras would also apply to digital cameras? The formula that I am referring to is Focal Ratio (or F-stop) = Aperture x focal length.
Thank you for any explanation or clarification you can offer on this[/url]
