Resolution query

I am off to London for the day sightseeing with my son. I will be taking my Fuji S8100fd with me. Now its usually set to the full 8 mega pixels but I am wondering of its worth it or to tone it down to 4 mega pixels? I rarely print my photos out and if I do its only up to a 7 x 5 anyway. They are usually viewed on a PC or set as my screen saver.

So will the higher mega pix be worth it?

The *only* reason I can think of to reduce the MP is if you don't have enough memory space on the camera. Otherwise, always keep the MP as high as possible. You might just get a really great picture that's worth spending some time processing later and then every bit of extra image information will help.

For the best image quality, use your camera's full resolution.

With some cameras there is a difference in the timing/count of a burst that depends in resolution. That is about the only reason I can think of to reduce resolution.

They're all correct. Only reduce resolution if you have a good reason, like you just want certain graphic effects, or you're shooting a sequence for a big stitch-up or a small animation, or if full resolution interferes with bursts, etc. If you're worried about running out of storage space, buy another memory card or three -- they're cheap. Resolution lost cannot be regained.
