No problem. My original post was that it's rather short sighted for not looking at the battery and the film that a camera uses before buying it (take a look at the C5050 and the s602 that were also suggested), and not 1 camera vs another. BTW the original question was about speed and microdrive (which the other two cameras also accept) so I just don't know how Sony/Memorystick came up at all ops:

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Olympus E10 which can still be found at places like B&H for a very reasonable price. For what you say you want to do, in my opinion it's probably the best all around solution in the price range. Next to that, I'd look for a used Canon D30 or even D60.
