Hi there,
I'm really new to cams etc, so I'm looking for advice. I want to get a cam that I cam just play around with. Take a few pictures to send to friends and family etc. I'm not a serious photo buff. I've got the option of picking up a used Canon A20, or a new HP 635. Can anyone give me any opinions about which one I should get? I know that the Canons are very popular (people rave about their A40s and A60s), but the A20 is rather old. I don't consider HP a camera company, but the price is reasonable, and it is new. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Since you aren’t going to be wanting to work with your images in an editor the HP looks to be the better choice. Phil over at dpreview says the images are flat and there isn’t a contrast control. Newer cameras generally have better cycle times as well. And the HP is a camera you can grow into with more controls. You can use it completely in auto, but a digital camera is a great learning tool and you might want to progress.
