i wasn't paying attention to the ad. but i thought it said AF but it's not. but i bought a 50mm minolta manual . the question is can i use this on my a300 without doing damage to it. or should it stay in M mode if i use this. i was told that a 50mm was good for portraits. if anyone could lend a hand i would appreciate it..

Minolta Manual mount lenses will not physically mate to the Minolta/Sony A Mount.

There are adapters, but most are teleconverters, so the focal length will be longer and the maximum aperture will be smaller. And the adapters that aren't a teleconverters are extension tubes, so they will severely limit your maximum focusing distance.
