Default Want to print pix at 300dpi

I am new with digital cameras. I noticed when I take pictures with my Nikon Coolpix 2100 at the highest quality, and I try to print them, it is only at 72dpi and the print out is terrible. How can I get the camera to take pix at 300dpi? Or do I need a different camera? If so, which camera do you recommend?

Don't be confused with DPI and PPI. DPI=dots per inch a printer thing, PPI=pixels per inch, a camera thing.

To print any pic at 300DPI simply select it in your printer's control panel.

However, what I think you mean is PPI.

A 2mp image can only be printed upto 6x4 inches for a 280 PPI print out.

Resize the image to 6x4 before printing. If there is a button called resample in your software turn it off.

Essentailly a 2mp image is 1200x1600 = about 1400x1400

SQR root 2million = about 1400

6x4 = about 5x5

1400/5 = 280 PPI

BTW, I use PowerPoint to print my images by simply dragging and dropping them to fit the size of the paper, usually 2 prints per A4 sheet - it's much simpler.
