I’m looking for a camera in the $100 - $150 range which will allow a video cable to be connected to my portable DVD player (it has rca inputs) for use as a remote display.
Do cameras with an A/V out have this ability also or is it only for movie/pic playback? I don’t know what this feature is called thus how to choose my next camera. Thanks, Bob |

Are you saying that you want to see DVDs on your camera's display?

I think he wants to use the DVD player in place of the camera LCD. If the camera A/V out is RCA, then there should be no problem with what you want to do. I have done this with my Minolta. These generally output in standard TV, not HD.

I saw a Nikon L20 at Wally's but there was no information about this (remote display feature) in the user's manual. It does come with an A/V cable with RCA males. Another concern I have is that it's a zoom camera. Since I'll be using it in macro mode and in confined places... will the lens pop out or will it (in macro mode) stay recessed (optimal for me)? I am not familiar with this camera, so can't really advise. Best suggestion would be to check the reviews here at Steve's and other places, to find what you are looking for. If you have a particular camera in mind, try asking in the forum for that camera maker. The people who use the cameras are your best resource for this question.

Sounds like you want a fair/good resolution web cam with whatever connection that works with your DVD player.

I have not done a lot of looking around for the best unit, but have you considered a "snake camera". This is a camera on the end of a flexible cable, that they put down drains, etc.
http://www.google.com/search?q=flexi...ient=firefox-a Also, I just found another one - a small unit designed to be hidden but it has RCA plugs that are designed to be connected to a DVR (could probably work with a DVD player - however I would call and ask first). http://www.brickhousesecurity.com/cs25pa.html Here is another - somewhat of an all-in-one unit. http://www.lintechco.com/show_imgnew...FSDxDAodiQLRNw Amazon has the above unit for $140 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00273Y8AQ/...SIN=B00273Y8AQ http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...S&linkCode=asm ... and some more http://www.shopzilla.com/electronics...1000000/search hope that helps... ![]() |

I thank everyone for your help. I now realize my options are many more than I could have previously imagined.
