Why get Digi-Camera instead of Digi-Camcorder?

From what I've seen, the prices of digital cameras and digital camcorders are comparative. Digital camcorders can record video as well as take stills while digital cameras only take stills and mediocre video. Why would anyone want to buy a digital camera instead of an all-in-one digital camcorder?

I ask because I'm currently comtemplating my first purchase, and was puzzled by this.

to be nice .... cameras still rake still pictures 100X better than movie recorders toi say the least :

If you want to print out any of the pictures then few if any camcorders would be up to the challenge. Digital photos are an added bonus on a digital camcorder just as digital video is a bonus on a digital camera, but these features are just for fun, nothing more.

... and it'll have a cellphone, MP3 player and PDA all built-in as well! (and Wi-Fi too!)

When you freeze a still frame from a movie cam file, and compare it alongside a 3Mpix plus still cam frame, for the equivalent resolution to print even a 6X4 print, viewing both at 12 inches from your eyeballs, you can spot the difference.

Watching movies is a 'lean back' experience. If somebody puts a really nice clean sharp print in front of you - you'll lean forward and want to get closer.

You got to know what you want to do the most of....take pictures or make videos...because each one is stronger in their intended field.
