Default Help needed with first digicam

Looking at getting a digicam. I am not a "camera" person, just need a decent camera for regular photo taking and occassionally printing out the pics.

i have read tons of reviews and would like the following in the cam if possible;

1. decent start-up speed
2. low shutter lag
3. 3x optical zoom or better

The ones i think look good from the specs and reviews include;
Canon a70
HP photosmart 720 and 735

any others worth mentioning in the same price range?

I have only had my canon a70 for 5 days, but I love it.There is still things I haven't tried out though.It is pretty easy to use, but the manual is so thick it will scare you to death at first.I can't comment on the other camera you mentioned. I plan on trying the movie mode this weekend. One thing ,it loves the batteries.I am going to get rechargables.I bought my canon online and had it in 3 days.$279, no shipping charge at buydig.com.My order was perfect :lol:

The canon has many features that the hp's don't, such as a full manual mode (should you ever wish to use them) while still retaining point and shoot functionality. Of course, it is more expensive than the hps, so you have to ask yourself, are the added features worth it to you?
