Can someone explain what this "grid" like artifact is ( particularly noticable in the sky)and what causes it?

That looks similar to what I see if I resample one of my .jpg pictures to make it bigger. In my case, it has to do with how JPEG compression works on (if I remember right) 8x8-pixel squares to do the compression.

Your EXIF indicates its an Oly and you used ACD Systems software but not the version... beyond that there is little helpful info and Tom is most likely correct.

I would take the original, untouched file and try it in some other software and see if it does the same thing (if you do not have any other software, download the free Picassa or some other editing softwareand try working in it to see if the problem recurs).

Several years ago Inoticed the sameartifacts in certain inexpensivephoto editingsoftware, but in recent yearshave never encountered it — notsince I started using PhotoShop (versions5 through CS2).

Thank you that might be it! I did some work in PS but forgot to resize before closing so did it in ADC because it's quicker to load. We learn every day>

Thanks for taking the time to look and answer. David
