Both photos have EXIF data that indicate that the shots were taken at a focal length of 66.7, the maximum focal length of the lens on the Fuji S6500fd.

In [wo lens.jpg], the peak of the roof on the greenhouse is about 244 pixels long. In [withlens.jpg], the peak of the roof is about 304 pixels long. That still works out to about 1.2X, not the 2X indicated on the lens.

Does anybody else have any ideas, or should themosttogainjust send it back?

Personally I'd send it back. It doesn't add much to the focal length and it degrades the image quality. About the only thing it has going for it is cheap.

Personally, I would not keep it. The second outdoor picture looks focused (but soft) in the middle, but really soft on the side and edges. So it looks like this is the best this thing can do.

I would send it back too.

The degradation in image quality is so noticable that I bet you could bet much better pictures just by interpolating up to the same size.

Why not give it a try on that last picture and post for us.

You want it...you got it!

Both pics below were upsized, the first to 1.2x, and the second to 2x.

You're quite right, it does look better interpolated than with the lens...even at twice the size it looks quite impressive.

I am arranging to send the lens back and I have ordered (on recommendation from my local branchof the London Camera Exchange) a Marumi2x telephoto instead. It's costing about £70 this time so I'm hoping it's gonna be a bit better than the last one. It's the only telephoto lensI can find to fit the S6500 anywhere so I don't seem to have a great deal of choice in the matter!

Well...another twist in the tale...

My new telephoto lens arrived today. Again, a 2x, but this time alot more expensive. This time the clarity is much better, BUT...it STILL only gives a 1.2x magnification!

Does that make sense to anyone!?

No it doesn't. Does this come from a company that you can call? Did you get it from a retailer you can call?

Yes, it came from a big company who have a branch nearby...I'm going to go over there in my lunch hour today and see if they have any ideas. I can't believe I can have so many problems with such a simple thing!

Thanks for replying again!
