Default compact flash

HI, I am about to get Canon A60 after months of deep thinking

It comes with 16MB compact flash card, which I heard is not enough.

I plan to take the digicam for vacations and I don-t take more than 50 pics in a trip. How many MB do I need for that? and how many pics am I able to get in 1024 x 768 resolution with 16MB ?

Thanks again!!!

You will need at least a 128Mb CF card to really be happy with your digital camera. The biggest difference between film and digital is that you can take hundreds of pictures per card and throw away the ones you don't like. If you limit yourself to a low capacity card, you will have to pace yourself when taking pictures or else risk running out of space.

According to dcresource.com at 1024x768 with the 16mp card you can take 25 at superfine quality, 46 at fine and 84 at normal. But I agree with Lauren, you should at least get 128mb because, a. memory is dirt cheap so you may as well, and b. this way you aren't limited in case you decide that 50 pics aren't enough.

It seems that most folks take five to ten times as many pictures with a digicam than they did with their chemical camera. So if you took about 50 pictures with your chemical camera, you should figure on enough memory to hold 250 -500 or 128M to 256M.

Things *NOT* to do:
1) Delete the bad pictures while on vacation. Do you really want to spend your vacation squinting at a little LCD? Do you think you can tell which picture is in focus by squinting at a little LCD?

2) Shoot at anything but the highest resolution. Do you want to guess which picture will turn out to be the best one of the trip - and what resolution it was shot at?

3) Get the camera just before you go on vacation. Do you want to spend your vacation reading a manual? Learn how to use it before you leave.

__________
Memory is cheap - get lots of it.

Stefank,

Work out how much memory you think you'll need. Err on the generous side.

Then double it.

Thank you very much for the replies !!! It has helped me a lot!

I live in Argentina, so the camera and the Compact Flash cost more (canon a60 is $350 dollars), but I think getting 128MB is really worth the money.

Well, I guess I have to start skipping dinner to save money

BillDrew, thanks for the tips. They really are helpful.
