Default Recommended Flash for Coolpix 5000

Ok, so I'm disappointed that I can't use my Sunpak 5000 w/ my CP5K.

Can you folks recommed a good flash around $150 ?

Does it have to be "Nikon" only?

Any Nikon-dedicated AF flash can be used although some of those so-called "Nikon compatible' flashes may or may not work. If you want to make sure it works then use a real Nikon speedlight. The new and small SB50DX is nice.

Bear in mind that the Coolpix 5000 (and the new 5700) do -not- control the motorized zoom head or make use of the external AF-assist beam. This has been a sore subject with me since the release of the Coolpix 5000 and I am totally stumped at why they didn't correct this obvious mistake with the new Coolpix 5700.

So that being said, a less expensive Nikon speedlight (without motorized zoom head and AF-assist) is just as good and probably less expensive. Basically the coolpix 5000 and all the other Coolpix cameras with flash sync connectors can only squelch the flash when the camera tells it that it has metered enough illumination.

Steve,

I appreciate your reply.
I will look for a smaller Nikon flash in the days ahead (if not the SB-50DX).

I'd even be interested in something used.
