a raw noob here....this is my FIRST digicam and loved playing around w/it...(excellent way to know the camera's inner workings)

however....as much as I've read up on the manual, I can't figure out how to get the zoom working when I use the movie mode. I have the digital zoom ON. It's set in 10fps with a 4:3 aspect. What do I need to do to get it working? Gotta get this figured out before Christmas. LOL

advice/suggestions....?

You cannot zoom in movie mode with your camera.

could it be because digital zoom isnt realy a zoom as your thinking.

its more like zooming into the picture as is digitaly enhanced, stick with the lens zoom and you should be ok

apparently, it did say in the manual that it's possible to do a zoom in movie mode. (pp 29-31) guess I'll have re-read it again and do some more tweaking.

if it says u can zoom in the manual then u should be able to but read what u just wrote..............zoom in movie mode..........thats not the same as digital zoom in movie mode

use the optical zoom.......that uses the glass lenses and u will be fine

dont use the digital zoomand thats software based for "STILL" shots only and is really poor in any case

...but then again, it doesn't really matter, because you can't zoom while taking video with the LZ7 either.

Page 29 of the manual says, "In motion picture mode, the zoom magnification is fixed to the value set at the start of recording."

On page 53, it also includes focus and aperture value with the zoom.

I was talking to my co-worker today about my movie zoom problem and she brought up something that had me wondering if it's possible to use the zoom when EDITING the movie (I haven't installed the program from the CD that was supplied with the camera yet)

would it work?

id just like to point out that what you have got is a digital "still" camera with the "bonus" of making small movie clips so its limited as its main job is to take stills

any zooming in editing will result in pixelation as all its doing is making image bigger not infact zooming in, that can only be done with optics (lenses).

If video zooming is that important to you, why don't you return the camera and replace it with one that allows zooming while filming?
