I got a Canon A720 IS for Christmas and I'm thinking I need to exchange it for something else. I use a flash a lot with four kids 13, 9, 9 and 7. They're always moving but hardly camera shy. The flash takes 5-6 seconds to recharge, way to long.

Any suggestions on which on to exchange it for? I'm partial to Canon or Nikon and would like to stay under $300.

Cheers!

Check Steve's Best Camera's list: http://www.steves-digicams.com/best_cameras.htmland read the reviews of the compact and ultra compact camera. His review will cover flash recycle time.

I did read the review for the SD720 prior to purchasing. A friend of mine purchased the SD750 which the same recycly time but her flash time seems much quicker. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Thanks for your reply.

Are you and your friend using the same type of batteries?

A general rule of thumb:

2 AA (Alkaline) will be slowest, 4 AAs, NmH, LiIon will all be faster, in about that order. Recycle time is generally not the strength of small cameras, bigger is often better for flash.

Both camera's take 2 AA's. I don't know if we're using the same type, I'll change mine and see if it makes a difference. Like everyone, I hate missing a shot and I prefer natural over posed.

By the way Canon makes an accesory flash (High-Power Flash HF-DC1) for the 720 that should provide additional power and quicker recycle time.
