Default Good book or magazines?

I would like to know what book on digital photography is worth investing in. I would like it to have colour illustrations etc and be written by someone of repute. It also needs to cover the basics and extend to intermediate skills - as we have a family of varied skills.

Are there any magazines that fit these parameters too?
I've bought two UK mags - What Digital Camera and Digital Camera World and have learnt something every edition.

I know of some books that are helpful for general photography, but not necessarily for digital.

What style of photography do you do? Portraits? Wildlife? Architectural?

Here are some links to books Iíve been told are good. Havenít used them myself. You can see the bend my photography takes by some of these links:

National Geographic Photography Field Guide: People and Portraits
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books

National Geographic Photography Field Guide 2nd Edition : Secrets to Making Great Pictures
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books

Complete Digital Photography (2nd Edition)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...318679-1563209

The Art of Bird Photography: The Complete Guide to Professional Field Techniques
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books

The Art of Bird Photography: The Complete Guide to Professional Field Techniques

(The second link is to the authors web page. Might be nicer to buy it there.)

The Basic Book of Photography

I own none of those. But they have been recommended multiple times in forums that I go to.

I own:
The nature photographerís complete guide to Professional Field Techniques

By John Shaw.

Itís a bit disjointed, but I still learned a lot.

You might be surprised to learn that some libraries have these books. So you might try there before buying them.

Same for the magazines. Popular Photography is probably the most popular mag. Photo Electonic Editing is interesting (borrow my dad's copy on occasion.) but check your library, many get mags like these.

Default Thanks Eric

I'm wanting a book that will cover the basics for my family but also develop my interest in macro and distance shots of nature - I hike a lot and particularly enjoy pics of landscapes and closeups of flowers and insects, etc.

I appreciate your input :!:

Hello!

Are there any magazines specifically for Digital Photography? I think there are a lot nowadays, I just don't know which is the most informative and popular.

The Basic Book of Photography

Should do the trick. I think the national geographic books both have intro early chapters... but not having them I can't say for sure. They might not go into enough depth in the beginning areas.

Time Life made a series that I've heard good things about, but I have never seen them and they are out of print. If you could find them they would be a treasure beyond their helpfulness.

Shireen

Go to www.shortcourses.com There is a good basic course on digital photography. You will find other courses that will help you grow in photography skills.
