Default Good reading recommendations for beginning photographers?

Hey all. I've been having alot of fun getting to know my 5700, and have begun getting some good shots with the manual settings ("yes, I really DID intend to shoot that!) -- a first for me!

Now I'm interested in improving my photo composition, subject selection and such. I find that I prefer macro photography to landscape, and have the Nikon Coolpix 5700. I'm not interested in wide angle, telephoto or fisheye lenses yet -- if I get that far, I'll trade in my Coolpix for a DSLR.

I'm looking for reading suggestions for really good books covering photographic techniques, composition, basic camera settings, etc.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Default good reads? Redux....

Web sites are great! But I'm also interested in hardcopy books, too, so don't forget those as well.

Thanks!

I just got through reading the National Geographic Field Guide

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...books&n=507846

It's not a teaching manual by any means, but there is a lot of good information for helping to get comfortable composing pictures. Lots of hows rather than whys.

Hey, I was going to recommend that National Geographic book! That is part of a series which is supposed to be very good. It covers nature photography, portrates and more.

I've also heard good things about this book:

The Basic Book of Photography
http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASI...471943-6779258

I've never read it, though (maybe I should!)

Try the late Galen Rowell's....

The Art of Adventure Photography

Though it was written in the time of "predigital for the masses"
you can learn much from it.

Its photos continue to inspire me.

You can find it very cheaply on Amazon's used books.

Go here:

See his web site at:
