Default what setings to use at a football game

going to a high school football game in about an hour, i would like to know what settings i need to use for a high shutter speed and no flash, the feild lights will be on

You'll need extremely high ISO and wide aperture. Unless you're shooting with a DSLR you may be out of luck.

ya, i just got back and by pics are dark, i was shoting at iso 400 with an apature of 2.8 and around 160\ shutter speed

iam going to swing by ritz and pick up a flsh for my 7hi

Depending on how dark they are, you can recover this in photoshop (or some other editor.) I need high shutter speeds because I shoot distant subjects (usually birds.) One way to get higher shutter speeds is to use exposure compensation. The results are darker than I'd want, but in photoshop I use levels to recover the picture.

You should consider trying the same thing.

How far away were the football players. Even the best flash won't reach beyond about... 15-20 feet at f2.8 & 100ISO. If 400ISO is good enough for you, then that will extend the reach quite a bit.
