Default First camera advice?

Hello. I'm a brand new user over here. I've been contemplating on what kind of digital camera to use. Truth be told, I am not very knowledgeable on the specifics of digicams. I would just like a camera to take pictures during vacation, family functions, etc. I also am interested in landscape pics. I'm basically torn between the Canon S400 and the Olympus Stylus 400. I've seen the sample pics of both, and am sort of leaning towards the Canon, however, besides the fact that the Olympus is more affordable, it is weatherproof too. And yet the Canon takes clearer pics. I'm seriously confused. ops: Which camera would be better for me?

I forgot to add that this would be my first digital camera ever.

Anyone?

Well if you prefer the images taken by the canon, then I'd go with it. Even though the Olympus may be cheaper, if the images are not up to par, then you'll probably be less inclined to use the camera which would be a waste.
