Default canon g3 alternative flashgun

Hi photie buddies,
I have a Canon G3 and I am delighted with it but need to know what external flashguns will be compatible with it apart from Canon. I would love to buy the Speedlite 420ex but I cant afford it just now. I have tried my old Vivitar 273 (coal fired job)! but nothing happens..
I borrowed my mates Pentax AF240Z and it worked on manual but I am sh-- scared It will damage the G3..The sales people at Jessops in Edinburgh where I bought the G3 say Jessops own make would maybe do but I would have to try it in the shop..
(suck it and see)!! but I would rather know what works safely and what might damage my G3 ??
PS I tried to email this message to Canon but i would have had more success emailing GWB!!!

sigma makes an alternative strobe.

the EZ strobes do not sync properly with their digital cameras. you must use a EX or EX compatible strobe for functionality.

have you been to the Dr Who museum lately? i have heard rumours that there is a chance the good doctor my come out of dormancy and back to saving time and space again in living color.

I'm also wondering about alternatives. Specifically if any of the Sunpak flashes would work. It seems the Canon flash doesn't even work 100%, which to me is a huge disappointment.

Just hope you didn't already wreck your camera with that flash...digital camera makers recommend that you only use flashes with a trigger voltage (what's on the contacts of the hot foot) of around 6 volts...the Vivitar 273 has a trigger voltage of 290 volts (no kidding).

Suggest you check out the following links:
