The point I'm trying to make is that you won't normally find what the smallest aperture is on a camera you might buy unless you look at the detailed specification as found at the back of the manual. This isn't always easy to find. The range quoted in headline specifications of lenses, as in the example I gave, tells you nothing about the minimum aperture. It tells you how much the maximum aperture shrinks as you zoom in.

Reading the Sony web page on that camera I think at it's widest angle setting (least zoom) would have an aperture range of f/3.5 to f/6.3 and at maximum telephoto (max zoom) the aperture range would be f/4.6 to f/6.3. With that limited range shutter/aperture priority settings would seem superfluous.
