Default Memory card questions

I am new to your forum and I hope I'm posting this in the right place.
I have a Minolta 7i and love it but I just bought a Transcend 512mb (80x) and the camera displays a message "cannot use this card"
Is there anything I can do to make this card work as the camera manual states it will use up to a 512 cf card or a 1gb microdrive,
Thanking you in advance for any response...

May be a timing problem, or you may need to format the card first. You should also check the firmware revision number and update it if necessary. I have the 7hi, and it works with larger than 1GB cards since the latest firmware update. Check the Minolta Digicam forum further down the page for links, etc.

Well I tried formatting the 512 card at fat 32 in a card reader and the card will only show 84.6mb, I'm now really at a loss cause it still won't work in my camera...

The 7i is not compatible with a FAT32 file system.

What operating system are you using? If windows, I'd go into windows disk management, look for the graphical representations you'll find under the list of drives, and delete any partitions that may have been created on it by right clicking on them and looking for the menu choice to remove them (in case it got setup with more than one for some reason, eating up some of the space available being shown after a format). Then, reformat it as FAT (which will use a FAT16 type format) *not* FAT32 (which won't work with that camera) and see what you get. Make sure to use the eject or safely remove features before removing the card from the reader. Then, reformat it using the camera's menu choice for format and see if it works OK.

Thanks, I'll try that as soon as possible and see if that works...

Thanks to all that responded, the card now works just fine after deleting partions and formatting in a card reader and then in camera.
Again thanks
