Default Strange camera noises

When i press the shutter down to focus and the settings adjust in camera i can hear a very very quiet noise that comes from the 'camera' as the settings adjust. Is this normal? Canon 450D.

Not heard it before as it is usually noisey in my house!! lol

Done a test of the camera again and it happens in man mode too but, it only makes a noise when the flash is engaged. When the numbers change in the viewfinder thats when the noise happens. Very very faint indeed. Not coming from the lens. Doesn't happen when flash not engaged. It is so faint. Like a tiny squeak when the flash settings change.

Room has to be very quiet to hear it.

I am sure it is coming from the camera body. I have turned off AF and IS on the lens so it is not that. It only happens when i activate the flash. As the numbers change in the viewfinder that is when the noise comes on and goes off.

It is not the flash charging.

I have tried it on a 500D and thats the same too.

It is ever so faint but now i hear it all the time when the flash is up etc!!

If it is a IS lens, it could be the IS spinning up

It sounds like the flash is charging up.

Not that. I know that noise.

Seriously though, anyone, please try it. Put the camera up to your ear and press the shutter down to focus (Obvioulsy you won't be able to see, unless you have Frankenstein blood in you) while in the 'Auto Mode' with the flash up. Can you hear a very faint noise? Thing is, i hear it all the time now that i have heard it once (No, its not sinitus!!!) Canon 450D or 500D etc etc

I hear it all the time, just a very fine ticking. no squeaking when the 500D has the flash up

I have noticed the same thing on several of my cameras...its a 'new' thing to me...since usually it is noisy...I had started shooting in less noise and there was a sound I heard. Something, mechanical something, I hadn't heard before. I checked out my other cameras...AAAHHHH, they are all making noise now! Now that I know that they Do, I am looking for Every sound, tick, squeak, they can make. It is very distracting!
It is on: Sony 717, Sony h1, h50, w170, w330, kodak z981, Alpha 100. I hope it won't be on the A850...I am thinking of getting...maybe am going crazy. hmmmm.
