Default C2100 vs c700

I'm a new convert from SLRs. The 20 rolls of film I brought back with me from a 7 day cruise to Alaska convinced me. Take shots, develop them and them scan them to put them on my computer; not worth the expense or waste of time.

I mostly take nature and scenery pictures.

After much reading I brought my shortlist down to 2, the Oly C2100 and C700, in part because of the X10 zoom. Apart from the image stabilization, how do the two stack up against each other? My goal currently is not to spend too much on my first camera. I' d like to learn from this one and then buy a better one later on.

Thanks

David

The image stabilizer is what makes the C-2100UZ. Olympus made a major mistake by leaving it off of the C-700 and the new C-720. No matter how steady you are, at 8x or 10x magnification there is a whole lotta shakin going on (forgive me Jerry Lee Lewis!)

Most people want the power of a long zoom but aren't ready to tote a tripod around. Anything beyond 4x is very prone to camera shake unless the shutter speed is 1/1000 sec or faster.

Do yourself a favor, buy the C-2100UZ or the E-100RS, both have 10x and IS lenses, the E-100RS is slightly lower res but it's the fastest digital on the planet at 15 fps burst mode.

Default c2100 vs. c700

I agree with Steve. I just got back from Watkins Glen International Raceway.
I shot over 100 photos of vintage racecars at speed with my c2100uz.
Most of my shots were at the full 10x zoom,
and some of them were even pan shots.
The camera is remarkable!
I've been shooting the races for over 30 years,
and am having more fun now than ever.
Get the Uzi ! !

Thanks for the advice. It's nice to have somewhere to turn to for help when you're not sure.

Default Check out the C2100

See the thread in this forum called "1st time buyer, narrowed to 2." I posted a longer message about the C2100 that may help you make up your mind. It's a great camera.

Default Good luck, Crash!

You are going to have SO much fun with your new "UZI" (Olympus C-2100 uz). You'll see. Congratulations on a very smart choice. Now, let's see some photos!

Regards,

Willa

Hopefully you'll see some soon. I'm flying up to the Northwest Territories, Yellowknife to be exact, next week and do not plan spending too much time in the city.

Thanks

David
