Avoid the ebay tripod, they are pretty junky. Go to adorama or BH they both have huge selections of tripod that are much better. You should be able to find a decent tripod for 40 dollars.

And the 50 1.8 is 125 dollars at the stores.

A flash would be a better first thing to get imho. It will add to the indoor portrait right aways.

I would go with get an external flash next it adds so much more your shots. You can pick up a nissin at a good price

An external flash with a swivel head is handy for indoor kid shots. It freezes those fast kiddies in their track. Plus bouncing off ceiling doesn't give that deer in headlight look.
