Default T3i Newbie

I just got this camera and I just took pictures in auto but they are not bright or clear looking. Is there something that I should of changed in settings for it to take clear pictures.
I know its me but am disappointed as I checked out so many cameras before buying this one and my S5IS takes better pictures on Auto.

Thanks for any help.

Can you post some examples of the photos you're not happy with?

Hi it takes some time to get used to s DSLR for best results try shooting in AV, TV. In AV you set the aperture and the camera sets the shutter speed, so you have to be careful not to have a shutter speed thats too slow. In TV you set the shutter speed and the camera sets the aperture. But as Tcav says post a pic and lets see it will help us

Both of these pictures are taken from same spot and the camera is on auto.

hi you are looking two different types of picture 1 and 2 are taken outside with a lot of snow you will need too add a bit compensation to compensate for the snow. the p&s shot has no snow and is a more even balance.
what were the settings of the t3i
