So forget about getting the best camera. Ainít gonna happen.

So (I hear you ask), what is the best camera that fits in my pocketbook? That depends on what you are going to do with the camera. (snip)

A common worry is buying a camera that is a real looser. Donít worry much about it. Every camera has its flaws (e.g,, the Hubble at a hockey game), but there are very few real duds out there.
I want to thank some of the regular posters here, Bill among them. A few months ago, I met most of the above criteria. Basicly I didn't have a clue what I wanted, but I wanted somthing nice, and didn't want to pay too much. Wond up with a Canon Pro-90 IS, It's not what I expected. It has it's shortcomings, but has strengths too. The IS lense and auto stuff is increadible, but it's SLLLOOOWWWW, and auto focus isn't what I thought it would be! Mostly, it's given me somthing to learn with, it's managed to meet my immediate needs, and taught me some of the things I don't like in a digicam. More importantly, it taught me that I won't use a digicam, nearly as much as I though I would. The reason I'm gratfull to the posters here is, it was a lot cheeper lesson than if I'd planned, and forked out $1000+ for a high end SLR with some of the same shortcomings. Maybe some day I will buy a higher end SLR, but I'll do so without as many illusions about what it'll do, or what I'll do with it. JDBraddy

JDBraddy, even though your experience ended up being, in a way, negative, what you just wrote is a confirmation of what many here have been trying to say. Thank you for your post.

Nah, I'm a woman. Women always get the upper hand and, if they're really subtle about it, the men think they've won. 8)

Sounds like a male ploy to usurp the female method.
