Default Macro Photography

Which camera is recommended for macro photos such as flowers, leaves, butterflies. I have been told the Nikon 4500 excels at this. Any opinions or advice would be welcome.

The CP4500 works very well in macro mode and will focus down to about 0.8 inches from your subject.

However you are unlikely to get that close to a butterfly, I'd say 12 to 18 inches depending on species and luck. Also, with lace-wings (ok an unlikely subject), the autofocus may not work.

In practice I've ended up using my CP4500 for beetles and ultra close-up, and my D100 for Butterflies.

Regards,
Graham.

If you can find a 4500, it is perhaps the best for flowers and leaves. For butterflies, depending on your experience and skill, a TC-E2 2X teleconverter may be needed. If the TC-E2 pushes you too far away, consider adding Nikon's #5T +1.5 or #6T +2.9 close up lens.

Nikon sells factory reconditioned 4500's at a bargain price. You can get this camera for only $369.99 at Nikonmall. Here is the link:
