G'day bungalow

Get your son to try 2 things
1) Using the flash control button

2) set the flash to 'ON'

and then check flash operation

If it fails, there is a problem with the camera - it needs repairs
If it works okay - it suggests that the camera was on 'auto-flash' before, and the camera thought there was enough other light around that flash was not needed

Hope this helps a bit
Regards, Phil

G'day mate

Thx for your PM - I am a bit mystified - am I thinking of the right camera??
Could you have a look here ...
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q110superzoomgroup/8

and tell me if your camera looks like this one??
ps- in this case it's displaying the FZ35/38 the immediate predecessor of the FZ40/45

Regards, Phil

hi phil,
thank`s for your reply. in answer to your question. yes it is more or less the same camera, but mine is the fz45 24 x zoom and the circular control on the rear right hand side of the camera, as shown in your first picture has been changed to do different functions.

john.

I think the sequence is the FZ28, FZ35/38, FZ40/45, FZ47/48. The FZ45 is the European FZ40 (US). I don't know where Panasonic gets the sequence from.

I remember someone mentioning that the flash might not work if a burst or bracket was activated somewhere in the menu. If you lock the setting in one mode, it carries over to another and it isn't obvious.

It was long ago when those cameras were new, but I suggested they reset the camera and that didn't work. They had to find that feature and turn it off.

hi,
thank you for your message. but you are correct, i googled it yesterday and after a long search came up with the same answer. which is not contained in the manual.
if for any reason the BURST SETTING is selected the flash will not fire on the PANASONICC FZ45 . so i thought i would post the answer just in case anyone else is having the same problem. thank you all for trying to help me, and i wish you all the best for xmas. john.
