Default Cheap camera

Hello,

I was looking for a cheap camera that is going to take good pictures. I do not know anything about cameras to be brutally honest. I would preferably like a camera with a separate lens so I can upgrade that in the future if I want to.

I am totally okay with buying 2nd hand as I know I can save a LOT on the cost there.

So what I am looking for is a decent camera which I can grab with a lens for 200 (UK) or less.

Thanks for your replies in advance! Really appreciated.

What do you plan to shoot..? What do you define as "good" pictures..? What will your likely output be... such as web sharing, print sizes etc...?

Will be using it for some close up shots computer showcasing but its main use will be as a family camera. Just good quality photos from holidays. I go skiing on most of my holidays if that makes a difference so lots of light.

By good quality I mean better than phone/camcorder because that's all I have at the moment. I have a slim 70 old camera as well; (One of the small cameras that the lens extends from when you switch it on.)

Sorry for being so vague.

Any more info needed just ask.

Thanks

I wonder, if "active" holidays are your thing, would something "bijou" not be more appropriate, as opposed to an interchangeable lens camera... maybe even waterproof..?
Something really compact is Sony's TX20- and whilst IQ is not stellar with such cameras, the Sony is one of the best of its kind and certainly better that a phone..!

If you feel waterproofing/shockproofing isn't necessary, Nikon's P7100 is an excellent all rounder- with manual control a plenty, it's certainly a camera you can grow into (though with the usual auto/scene modes for newbies...) and with prices dropping, coming very close to your budget...

If you want to have the option to swap/upgrade lenses and still stay fairly light, consider one of the mirrorless bunch... Olympus's EPL 1 or 2 can be had used for reasonable money as can one of Sony's NEX camera,s. Nikon's great little V1 can be had new for a small amount over your budget and if decent lighting and basic holiday use is all you'll be using it for,the small-ish lens range (at present) shouldn't be a hindrance- just be aware that a separate flash is required- or go the way of the J1 to sacrifice the viewfinder for a built in flash...
Reasonably priced and decent used DSLR's for beginners would be Nikon's D3000 and Canon's 1000/1100D...
Have a scout round here for some used equipment with warranties...( I have not used this retailer...)

Nothing cheaper than the Olympus EPL-1 or EPL-2. Although I have no idea how much this costs on ebay uk.
