Default Canon G5 or Olympus 5060

Hi all
Looking for some input on a new digital. Have looked at a range of 4 and 5 meg cameras around the US$700 price and am leaning towards one of these. All the forum topics I have read indicate that both are excellent cameras. I would be getting a waterproof housing and using the camera underwater as well.

Has anyone used these cameras underwater.

Is there any other cameras out there that are similar to these in spec and quality.

Hey hamowa, I noticed you're from Australia too. From that perspective, I've noticed the Olympus seems to be slightly cheaper than the G5 (which I haven't found anyplace selling for less than $AU1k). Both have fast lenses compared to the competition, and would be well suited for underwater use.

I prefer the Canon myself - faster max shutter speed, plus built in neutral density filter will ensure flexibility of use in various lighting conditions.

The Nikon 5400 and Sony DSC-V1 are also around the same ballpark in terms of price/performance.

Hi Onyx
I agree with you on the Canon. Seems like an excellent camera.
The 28mm lense and the 3cm macro focus may lean me towards the Oly at this stage.
The 5400 looks great as well. Good macro and wide angle as well.
May have to take a closer look at this one.

Thanks for your advise.
